ESSEX COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING

On Monday I presented our petition to the Essex County Board of Supervisors.  County Manager Daniel Palmer requested all info on the Bridges be given to him from DPW superintendent Jim Dougan.

Also at the meeting was Assemblyman Dan Stec.  He was so captured by the petition that he immediately called the Town of Chesterfield and requested a meeting later this week, as well as a walking tour of these bridges.

TOWN BOARD MEETING (TOWN OF CHESTERFIELD)

I presented the petition to the Town of Chesterfield this evening and received full support from all of the board members.  I was invited to participate in the meeting with Assemblyman Stec.  I will be there!

CLINTON COUNTY HIGHWAY SUPERVISOR

I have a phone call scheduled with the Clinton County Highway Supervisor on Friday.  I will request to meet with the Clinton County Legislature at their next meeting.

TOWN OF AUSABLE

I’m going to try to stop in and meet with Sandy Senecle on Friday morning.  I’m going to again make sure I have a time slot on the Town of Ausable Board Meeting on August 12th, and express that we would love the their full support.

BIGGEST HURDLE

The biggest Hurdle will be the Clinton County Legislature.  It’s my intention to gain support from both highway supervisors in each county, and to express that the majority of signatures of the petition actually came from CLINTON COUNTY!  Our voters are speaking loud and clear that this is vital to our community.

KEEP THE PETITION GOING!

Even though we have presented the petition to Essex County, we can still boost those signature numbers for LOCAL residents in Clinton and Essex County.  The more local signatures we get, the more serious we should be taken!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

I thank you all sincerely for your support with this project.  I’m hoping a new round of dialog will finally get something done about these bridges.

Keep it Going! We are almost at 300 Signatures

Keep it going! We are at almost 300 signatures for our petition to save the bridges in Keeseville. Please share, email, text, shout, or tell everyone who doesn’t use social media!

Here is an updated proposal idea to save our bridges. It’s not meant as a perfect solution, but to start the conversation.

THE UPPER BRIDGE (River St/ AuSable St)

A Multi Year Process

1) Immediately stop the removal of the upper bridge and use that funding to stabilize the bridge as much as we can to move forward.

2) Find out what happened to the grant funding that was acquired and use it or apply for new grant funding to open the bridge as a pedestrian / bike bridge.

3) Over the next few years acquire state funding, and any other grants to renovate the bridge enough to reopen for cars.

THE WALKING BRIDGE

A community Go Fund Me Campaign to get the walking bridge sanded and repainted. New Entrances to each side of the bridge that look the same, and modern railings. Fix the “Foot prints in the sidewalk”. Trim the trees back so the bridge can be seen, and add a community flower garden to make it look nice.

THE CHASM BRIDGE

A Community wide Business Go Fund Me Campaign starting with large companies like NYSEG, Pepsi, Etc. With the new Multi-million dollar dam in place, it would be great to first renovate and open it as a walking bridge, and then get more funding to open it for cars.

What happens next? At the end of a community, town, and county effort, the bridges will now be expected to be regularly maintained again by each county. If we all work together this can be successful.

Town of Chesterfield Meeting is August 4th at 7:00pm. I’ll be working on a Town of Ausable meeting date soon.
